East-West TransAmerica Corridor Added to Congressionally Authorized Future Interstate Coalition Map TransAmerica Corridor, Inc. joins national CAFI initiative supporting dedicated federal funding for congressionally authorized Future Interstate corridors.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI — MAY 8, 2026
TransAmerica Corridor, Inc. today announced that the East-West TransAmerica Corridor, proposed as Future Interstate 66 and Future Interstate 50, has been formally added to the Congressionally Authorized Future Interstate Coalition (CAFI) and its national map of partner High Priority Corridor initiatives.
The addition recognizes the East-West TransAmerica Corridor as part of the broader national effort to advance multi-state Future Interstate corridors and secure dedicated federal formula funding for their planning and construction.
The East-West TransAmerica Corridor is currently shown by CAFI as “Future I-66/I-50 — Congressional Authorization Being Sought.” While the corridor is included in the Congressional High Priority Corridors list framework as Corridor 3, additional federal action remains necessary, including amending statutory route language to add Interstate Route 50 and the six western states needed to complete the full East-West TransAmerica Corridor designation.
“TransAmerica Corridor, Inc. is proud to endorse the CAFI initiative and to see the East-West TransAmerica Corridor included among the nation’s partner Future Interstate priorities,” said Robert Spurlock, President/Executive Director. “This is an important step toward building support for a coast-to-coast, east-west corridor that strengthens freight mobility, national connectivity, rural economic development, and long-term transportation resilience.”
CAFI is advocating for creation of a Multi-State Future Interstate Highways Formula Funding Program in the next federal surface transportation reauthorization bill. CAFI materials note that there is currently no dedicated federal funding source to plan and construct Future Interstate Highways, despite decades of congressional corridor designations and growing national transportation demands.
The coalition’s goals include enhanced safety, expanded national connectivity, improved goods movement efficiency, support for national defense, increased roadway resilience, regional economic development, and emergency evacuation needs.
The East-West TransAmerica Corridor would connect and strengthen a multi-state transportation spine across the country, complementing CAFI’s mission to complete congressionally designated Future Interstate corridors that provide national benefit. CAFI’s national map identifies multiple Future Interstate corridors, including Future I-14, I-27, I-42, I-49, I-57, I-69, I-73/74, I-86, I-87, I-99, and the East-West TransAmerica Corridor listed as Future I-66/I-50.
“Being added to the CAFI map gives the East-West TransAmerica Corridor a stronger national platform,” said Robert Spurlock, President/Executive Director. “Our next step is to work with congressional leaders, state partners, local governments, and economic development organizations to secure the statutory updates needed to fully authorize the I-66/I-50 corridor.”
TransAmerica Corridor, Inc. encourages communities, counties, states, transportation organizations, chambers of commerce, ports, logistics stakeholders, and economic development partners along the proposed corridor to support the CAFI initiative and advocate for federal recognition and funding of the East-West TransAmerica Corridor.
